Adoption policies
- Anyone renting or leasing must provide contact information for their landlord before an adoption can be approved. Any restrictions regarding type or size of animal must be noted.
- We have an open adoption policy – apartments, unfenced yards, young kids are okay, but only if the pet you are interested in is a good fit for that situation!
- We may require references for special cases.
- In making decisions about the placement of “our” animals, we are thinking not only of their welfare, but also of the well-being of the families who wish to adopt from us. We focus on making a good match between pets and owners, not simply making a sale, and sometimes that means denying an adoption or requesting that families wait before adopting, or asking them to choose a different pet.
- We require all of our pets to be spayed and neutered. All dogs are tested for heartworms and started on heartworm prevention. All cats are FIV/Leukemia tested. All pets are given basic wormer, vaccinations and flea & tick prevention.
- Microchipping and microchip registration are included for all pets.
- Once a Pets and People pet, always a Pets and People pet. We stand behind all of our adoptions. If for any reason you are unable to keep your pet, please contact us asap. We want to help you and your pet so please give us as much time as possible to make arrangements.
- No cat should be declawed. If you’re unfamiliar with the process of declawing see the link provided. (www.declawing.com)
- All cats must be indoor cats.
- If you are interested in an outdoor cat, please request information on eligible barn cats.

Adoption Process
- Browse our adoptable pets online (links below). When you find a pet you’re interested in, fill out our adoption questionnaire below. Be sure to include the pet’s name.
- You should hear back from us within 48 hours, excluding weekends and holidays…
- If the initial application is approved, a video call will be scheduled to discuss your application. Please pick a time where you will be at home so we can see your space and where the pet will be spending most of his/her time.
- At this time, if the space and application are in order we will set up a face to face meeting with the pet.
- If you are a match, in most cases you will be able to take home your new pet after the face to face meeting. You will be given copies of all medical records at that time.
Please be aware these basic steps will help us greatly in finding a perfect match for your home! We ask that you be patient with us while we are processing your application.

The process at events is, if you meet a pet you want to adopt, you will fill out the paperwork on location and if the pet is a good match with your family, you could go home with the pet from the event. A virtual home inspection may be required.
